III Longboard coaching trip Mentawai

The 2nd Mentawai Longboard coaching trip in March 2027 will be held at The Shadow, in the Playgrounds area, located on a small private island, where there is nothing else but this place. The Shadow is the only surfcamp that is 100% locally owned and operated, so we are doing our bit for the local economy.
We will spend 10 days together in Indonesia, one of the must-stop destinations for any surfer looking for high quality waves, whether shortboarding or longboarding, as is our case.
Location: Mentawai
Mentawai is anidyllic destination, as it is a small archipelago of volcanic islands forming a clear example of an island arc.
The decision to choose Mentawai as a destination is not a new one. After several years of study and a good relationship with members of a local surfing family, born and raised in Mentawai, we made the decision to try this fantastic destination.
We love nothing more than surfing and helping the local people we visit, sharing their waves, their culture and traditions with respect and admiration.
We love small waves and with the help of our local friends, we have no doubt that this is going to be one of the top destinations for the next few years. #welovesmallwaves
level: low intermediate to advanced
This “Longboard Coaching Trip” is for you whether you are polishing your pop-up technique, trying to get the hang of cross-stepping or your first noseriding maneuvres.
The characteristics of the waves at Mentawai at this time of the year are perfect for the longboarder who wants to reach intermediate level, as well as for those who want to start or polish their noseriding.
Our recommendation to prepare for the trip or continue to learn afterwards: use the Longboard Academy to train your body and mind and get the most out of this experience.
what are the II mentawai longboard days about?
The group consists of 8 people with 2 instructors, + Dodi, third instructor, local and incredible surfer, who knows all the local waves perfectly. We always prioritize comfort whether in the camp or on the boats.
We will do longboard surfclass, theory class and/or video analysis every day except the first and last day.
Every day there will be a yoga/stretching class to keep your bodies in the best possible shape. We will help you to improve your surfing technique so that you can continue to progress in longboarding wherever you are at in your proces, as well as providing you with the knowledge you need to catch more waves and enjoy your sessions more, such as correct positioning and reading of the sea.
We will have a fleet of several speedboats, comfortable and fast, and a dinghy, which will also provide transport for free sessions (including the first and last day).
what is included?
The main objective of the “Longboard Coaching Trip” is to provide you with as much knowledge and practice as possible, both in and out of the water, to accelerate your learning so that you can continue to progress and enjoy your longboard surfing sessions more and more.
The coaching week in Mentawai includes:
- 1 surf and theory lesson per day (apart from the first and last day).
- Video recording of your waves; we will provide you all your videos and photos when the trip is over.
- Videoanalysis sessions.
- Specific mobility for longboard early in the morning before the lesson.
- Recovery mobility and relaxation session after the last surfing session of the day at sunset.
- Daily speedboat surfing transfer to more than 20 spots (first and last day you will also surf)
- Welcome Pack: we will send it to your home so you can add it to your luggage.
- Transfers in Padang
- Ferry ticket (round trip), inter-island transfers (from the port to the island and vice versa on the first and last day)
Not included:
- Surftax (1.000.000 or 2.000.000.000RP; between 70/100 EUR)
- Surfboards on the ferry (depending on weight between 230.000-690.000RP; between 13 and 20 EUR)
- Hotel in Padang (from 300,000 to 800,000 RP; 50 EUR)
- Any extras on the island such as photos by a professional photographer (approx. 200$ for 10 days), beers, juices, massages…
- Flights not included.
can I rent a longboard?
For this particular trip, you need to bring your own longboard.

Breakfasts, lunches and dinners, as well as accommodation are all included in the total price of the “coaching week”, so that your only “concern” when you come is to make the most of these 10 days in Mentawai.
